CEMEX Polska wspiera młodych architektów
The competition was organized as part of the Builder for the Future program, one of whose patrons is CEMEX Polska. As part of the program, CEMEX has been supporting and educating students of the art of architecture for years, expanding the knowledge acquired during studies with practical aspects of the use of building materials and sharing the practice and experience gained on the Polish construction market.
In this year's edition of the program, the recruitment of works was organized in two categories - the architectural task "Young Architect's Challenge" and the architectural and engineering task "Project that connects. "The railway connects us." In the first task, the winning project was called "See: Herbarium in Wrocław". It is a design of a building that combines nature with architecture and is a combination of a herbarium, a place for growing plants and a tea house. The second prize went to the author of the project for the revitalization of prefabricated blocks of flats. By introducing changes using prefabricated elements, old buildings can become more functional and energy efficient, as well as architecturally coherent. Third place was taken by the project to build a water desalination plant called Icemill.
In the second competition task, "A project that connects. The railway connects us” and the winning project was “Rostanice”. The project presents the construction of a railway station located in an old gold mine. On the one hand, it is intended to use unused tunnels of a closed mine and, on the other hand, to promote public transport as an ecological mode of travel. Second place went to the "Przystań" project, which involves the revitalization of the station area and railway infrastructure in Lewin Kłodzki. Third place was awarded ex aequo to two projects - the station in Konstancin-Jeziorna, as a prototype model of sustainable urban space, and the "Golden Station" project, which is a visualization of a modern station building and railway stop in Karpacz.
The aim of the competition is to select young architects whose projects are characterized by ingenuity and originality, as well as the ability to creatively change urban space, while maintaining the technical correctness of the proposed material and technological solutions. In their works, the participants used the CEMEX Polska product range. They had the opportunity to learn more about the properties and applications of special concretes, such as PERVIA (cavernous concrete), the Deco family of decorative concretes, as well as neogem decorative aggregates and cements for prefabrication applications and WHITE cement.
Detailed competition results and the works of all winners and finalists are available on the websites: builder4future.pl and facebook.com/4YoungArchitects . The winning works will be promoted in a special issue of Builder magazine, the Builder for the Future publication and on Builder's social media.
